Don't forget...

Madam Magpie Vintage will be running a stall at the 'Handbags and Gladrags Vintage Fair at the Castle'! Now that's something to get excited about! A selection of our favourite 'Magpie Picks' will be up on the blog soon, all of which will be available to purchase from us on the day. Fancy.

MAGPIE PICKS!

Magpie Picks!

Madam Magpie has been a very busy bird and has found an extra special gem - this gorgeous Horrockses floral shirt dress.

Horrockses Fashions was one of the most well respected ready-to-wear labels of the late 1940s and 1950s. Originally, the prices raged from £4 - £7, expensive for the day.  Even then, these dresses were highly collectable and ladies saved hard to get hold of one.  It wasn't long before celebrities and even the Queen (which eventually led to them being granted a royal warrant in the 1960s) were wearing the fashionable brand.
These have become especially collectable recently, probably with a bit of help from Betty Draper of Mad Men, and therefore rarer.  This is a fine example of the lovely floral cotton dresses of that time.  Well done Mrs Magpie!

A Grand Day Out in Oxford with Madam Magpie Vintage

This weekend we headed to Oxford for The Oxford Vintage Fair. Taking place in the breathtakingly beautiful Oxford Town Hall, we took up residence in The Council Chamber underneath a ceiling decorated with signs of the zodiac, ornate coving and sparkly chandeliers. My, what an eye catching setting this was for two little magpies! We spent a splendid afternoon promoting our treasures and chatting to the lovely people of Oxford, including a number of students who SHALL go to the ball now that they’ve purchased a frock from Madam Magpie Vintage. A fantastic day was had by all. Chin-chin!
